| KAPAWI LODGE

Kapawi The project began in 1993. The goal was to begin a new contract in ecotourism in conjunction with the OINAE providing economic support and monthly jobs to the Achuar, located in Kapawi as in other communities. Within 15 years all facilities belong completely to the Achuar Indians. The lodge has a capacity of more than 40 passengers and was built according to the Achuar concept of architecture (Not a single nail was used!).
Achuar is the name of one of the four groups of the language family Jíbaro Achuar, Shuar, Aguaruna and Huambisa. With an overall population of around 80,000 people, the group jibaro is one of the most important homogeneous cultures of the Amazon. Known in the past for its internecine warfare, the Achuar are living today in peace, mostly in small communities, a way of life suggested by the missionaries, where they get their products from small farms and hunting, fishing and gathering in the rain forest. In the early 70 the Achuar were the only Jíbaros not suffered the loss of their culture due to contact with the Western world.
