| DAY 8
We start early in the morning, have breakfast and then make our way toward the Baltra airport.
LOS GEMELOS
Sunken craters formed by a series of eruptions when the islands were still active. These craters are the only area of the island with Escalecia forests.
In this area, the Galapagos finches and the beautiful Vermillion Flycatcher can frequently be seen.
BALTRA AIRPORT
Where you will have to board your flight to leave the islands...all good things must come to an end.
But the airport itself has a history. In 1914, the island was occupied by the US as a military base to protect against the entry of foreign forces to the western coastal areas of America, and more specifically, as a strategic point to protect the Panama canal. Later, it was used by the Ecuadorian military before being converted to a civilian airport. |
